Frequently Asked Questions
-
Neuropsychology is a specialty within clinical psychology that examines the relationship between the brain and behavior.
Neuropsychologists assess thinking skills, emotions, and behavior to help clarify diagnoses and develop personalized recommendations for care and support.
-
A neuropsychological evaluation typically includes a review of your history, an interview, cognitive and psychological testing, and a discussion of your results. The neuropsychologist brings this information together with your medical records and other relevant documentation to understand your concerns. With your permission, family members or others who know you well may provide additional information.
Testing involves standardized activities, such as answering questions and completing paper-and-pencil or computer tasks. Areas assessed may include:
Attention and concentration
Learning and memory
Language abilities
Executive functioning (reasoning and problem-solving)
Visuospatial skills
Motor skills
Mood and behavior
The length of an evaluation depends on your individual needs. A brief evaluation may take about an hour, while a comprehensive evaluation takes several hours and may be completed over multiple days. Afterward, you will discuss your findings and personalized recommendations during a feedback session to better understand your strengths, areas of difficulty, and next steps.
-
Dr. Lehr brings together information from your medical records, interview, and testing to prepare a written report explaining your results and personalized recommendations. During the feedback session, he will explain what the findings mean and review next steps with you. We encourage you to bring any questions you have and take the time to address them so you leave with a clear understanding of your results and recommendations.
